Keeping your beautiful arrangement that you just received from your local florist looking fresh for days can be somewhat a task for most yet with just a few simple steps, you could be enjoying your gift for many more days. Here we go!
So you just received this lovely bouquet from a special someone and you are truly overjoyed about the size, colors and the scent..ooh that fragrance that only nature provides, but start to notice that within a few days of admiration that things start to change.
First the water starts to look murky and then some of the petals start to loose their vibrancy. Some petals may even start to fall off of the blooms. Well while you can't predict what nature wants to do with the process of keeping it's cut stems alive, you can do this.
(1) After approximately three days gently take a hold of the arrangement from the bottom of of the bouquet that just rests on the top of the vase or vessel that it is sitting in and lift it out of it's contents while keeping it's design in place with your left hand grip, if you are right handed. Or with your right hand if you are left handed.
(2) With a sharp pair of scissors with you free hand, cut the bottoms of each stem on a angle keeping your other hand tightly gripped around the stems.
(3) Once all the stems are cut on an angle place the scissors down and use that hand to pick up the vase or container and empty out all the murky water while still holding tight onto those stems.
(4) Fill vase with room temperature water 3/4 of the way full.
(5) Now with the hand that is still holding tight onto the stems gently place the arrangement design back into the vase that you just filled with the water.
(6) Now that you can see clear water and you design is back in it's vase use your scissors to cut open the packet of flower food that comes with your arrangement and empty it into the back of the design, that way you don't see the powder covering the stems as it makes it's way into the water.
(7) Lastly now place your freshly cleaned vase arrangement in a spot in the room where there is no direct sunlight, draft or heat! This is important as the sunlight promotes heat and heat is no good for preserving the life of your flowers and second drafts and heat cause the flowers to decay due to the air pressure and temperature. So keep the arrangement somewhere away from these areas and preferably in a cooler spot in the room.
(8) Finally for those petals and leaves that look weak and dry, just pluck those off and spritz with a bottle of fresh water every day to maintain the moisture in the flower.
So there you have it. Care for your design to make it last.
